TransUnion Data Breach Class Action Investigation

A class-action lawsuit has been filed against TransUnion LLC in Illinois federal court. Plaintiffs allege that TransUnion failed to properly secure and safeguard personally identifiable information (PII) and financial data of over 4.4 million people during a data breach.

The breach was discovered on July 28, 2025, involving unauthorized third-party access to sensitive data—names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers among them. The plaintiff reports having been a victim of identity theft, claiming fraudulent debts in excess of $30,000 and multiple unauthorized credit inquiries.

Plaintiffs contend that TransUnion did not take adequate steps to protect the compromised data. Among the alleged failures are not encrypting the data and not following required security protocols and procedures, even though TransUnion was aware of the risks associated with storing such information.

Because of the breach, Plaintiffs argue they and other class members are at elevated risk of fraud and identity theft going forward. They seek both monetary damages and injunctive relief, including requiring TransUnion to enhance its data security practices.
