A lawsuit has been filed against Siete Bucks Spirits LLC, the maker of Teremana Tequila, alleging that the brand falsely markets its tequila as “100% agave,” “handcrafted,” and “small batch.” According to the complaint, independent laboratory testing allegedly found evidence that the tequila contains alcohol from sources other than Blue Weber agave, despite its labeling and marketing claims.
Plaintiffs also allege that Teremana’s production methods do not align with its “handcrafted” and “small batch” advertising. The lawsuit claims the tequila is produced at an industrial scale capable of manufacturing millions of bottles annually, making the marketing misleading to consumers who believed they were purchasing a premium artisanal product.
The complaint argues that consumers paid a premium based on these representations and would not have purchased the product, or would have paid less, had they known the alleged truth about its ingredients and production methods. Plaintiffs are seeking damages, restitution, and changes to the product’s labeling and marketing practices.
The lawsuit seeks to represent consumers who purchased Teremana Tequila during the applicable class period and alleges violations of consumer protection laws based on false and misleading advertising.
Because the allegations involve a widely distributed beverage product and claims of deceptive marketing regarding ingredients and production methods, a class action lawsuit may follow or expand as more consumers become aware of the issue.
