A lawsuit has been filed against fast-fashion retailer SHEIN alleging the company misled shoppers with fake discounts based on inflated reference prices. According to the complaint, Shein routinely advertised products as heavily discounted from higher “original” prices that were allegedly rarely, if ever, used in actual sales.
Plaintiffs claim the pricing strategy created the illusion of major savings, encouraging consumers to believe they were getting exceptional deals. The lawsuit alleges that many products remained consistently available at or near the advertised “sale” price, making the higher reference price misleading and artificially inflating the perceived value of the discount.
The complaint further argues that Shein used these pricing tactics to increase demand and drive purchases by creating urgency around limited-time sales. Plaintiffs allege that consumers paid more than they otherwise would have because they believed the products were significantly discounted from legitimate original prices.
The lawsuit seeks to represent consumers who purchased Shein products advertised with allegedly misleading discounts. Plaintiffs are pursuing damages, restitution, and changes to the company’s pricing and advertising practices, alleging violations of California consumer protection and false advertising laws.
Because the allegations involve widely distributed retail products and claims of deceptive pricing practices, a class action lawsuit may follow or expand as more consumers become aware of the issue.
