Experian Phone Data Class Action Lawsuit

A nationwide class-action lawsuit was filed on June 6, 2025, in California federal court against Experian Information Solutions. The complaint alleges Experian sold consumers’ phone numbers to third-party lenders through “trigger leads” without consent, violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Plaintiffs claim that whenever a consumer applied for credit—such as a mortgage or home equity loan—Experian would share their phone number and credit report with multiple lenders, triggering a flood of unsolicited calls and texts that persisted for weeks or months. The suit argues this practice treats personal data as a commodity and invades consumer privacy.

The proposed class includes any U.S. individual whose phone number was disclosed by Experian in connection with a firm credit offer between June 6, 2023, and the present. Plaintiffs allege Experian’s conduct was both negligent and willful under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

The lawsuit seeks class certification, declaratory relief, statutory, actual, and punitive damages, and a jury trial on behalf of affected consumers nationwide.
