American Express Credit Reporting Class Action Lawsuit

A lawsuit has been filed against American Express National Bank alleging that the bank continued to report settled accounts as unpaid charged-off debts. According to the complaint, American Express accepted full settlement payments for two business accounts but reported them inaccurately to major credit bureaus.

The lawsuit claims American Express confirmed the settlement payments were processed but still reported the accounts as unpaid to TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. Despite disputes sent by the Plaintiffs to these bureaus, American Express allegedly verified the inaccurate reporting instead of correcting it.

Plaintiffs argue that this conduct resulted in harm, including emotional distress and damage to their credit profile. They claim that the inaccurate reporting mischaracterizes them as avoiding financial obligations, leading to loss of credit, increased costs, and damage to their reputation.

The complaint seeks to represent individuals affected by similar reporting practices and requests actual, statutory, and punitive damages. The lawsuit also calls for a jury trial and alleges violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and related state laws.
